Hypertension, or chronic high blood pressure, is a common disorder that affects 30% of Australians aged over 25. While it is generally asymptomatic, over time it can contribute to diseases such as cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. In fact, close to one quarter of cardiovascular deaths can be attributed to hypertension.
When hypertension is detected in time, and if it is not dangerously high, it can be initially treated with lifestyle modifications. People who are already taking anti-hypertensive medication can also benefit greatly from lifestyle changes and may even be able to lower their dose or stop taking medication altogether, although this should be done gradually under medical supervision.
The hypertension program includes:
- A body composition analysis that measures your body fat, muscle mass, visceral fat, bone mass, total body water, metabolic age, body mass index, basal metabolic rate, physique rating and your waist circumference
- Blood pressure readings
